Chinese Senior Editor

Humanistic Cultural Services- editorial division, Tzu Chi Foundation has an immediate opening for Chinese Senior Editor. The Senior Editor is responsible for promoting Tzu Chi’s Humanistic Cultural Missions.

Title: Chinese Senior Editor

Job Description:

  • Excellent command of Chinese writing ability. Be able to do coverage and interviews for the purpose.

  • Excellent command of Chinese editing ability. Be able to edit and rewrite non-professional writings.

  • Be able to compile materials or related reports into one article.

  • Excellent English reading ability and be able to do research on line and initial translation from English to Chinese.

  • Good command of designing feature stories. Former experience as an editor is a plus.

  • Be able to plan work schedule and finish works within deadline.

  • Willing to work with nonprofit charitable organization, and understand its spirit.

  • Co-Planning cover story, special feature articles, special columns and non-story elements (writing headlines) for US Tzu Chi World, a Chinese periodical.

  • Responsible for coordination of planning every issue including structure, theme and special topics.

  • Responsible for works related to the publication of US Tzu Chi World including writing, selecting and editing articles, contacting authors, picture selecting, proofreading, etc.

  • Review contracted manuscripts to ensure that they adhere to the organization’s standards.

  • Provide substantive analysis and content editing of manuscript content from author(s).

  • Edit documentation for accuracy, clarity, coherence, and consistency.

  • Rewrite material and/or works with original author(s) to affect necessary correction(s) and modifications.

  • Collaborate with design and production team to ensure on time production.

  • Not only manage distribution regularly, but also ensure its excellence meets Tzu Chi’s standards.

  • Work as needed with the desktop production designer assigned to the project to ensure balance between visual appeal and clarity for the reader.

  • Make sure that every issue is published according to schedule.

  • Other duties assigned by the supervisor, as required.

Experience: Minimum 2+ years relevant working experience

Curriculum Specialist & Training Assistant

The education programs within Tzu Chi’s R&D Department focus on character development of individuals as we teach students important moral values such as respect, thankfulness, compassion, and tolerance. The character education program has expanded steadily and is expected to grow at a rapid pace in the near future. We are looking for a responsible, detail-oriented professional with organizational skills and field experience in education to further develop our character education program. This curriculum specialist and training assistant must collaborate with public school educators as well as Tzu Chi volunteers across the U.S. The ideal candidate for this position is a clear communicator with experience in teaching, curriculum development, and a team player who can assist in training programs.

Title: Curriculum Specialist & Training Assistant

Job Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, related major or 2 years of work experience in the field of education interfacing directly with kindergarten, elementary, or middle school students.

  • Fluency in written and oral English. Understand and speak basic conversational Mandarin Chinese.

  • Wear appropriate Tzu Chi uniform during work hours or as a representative of Tzu Chi during off hours.

  • Able to do domestic or international travel when required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

As the curriculum specialist/training assistant, you will report to the director of R&D. You will be expected to perform such specific duties and responsibilities as are related to this position and any additional duties hereafter assigned. In particular, your duties will include:

  • Support the R&D team and its team members such as teachers, staff, and volunteers, in the development and maintenance of character education lesson plans, lesson outlines and lesson mapping.

  • Attend lesson plan design sessions and create thoroughly written lesson plans independently.

  • Assist in reviewing and editing character education lesson plans.

  • Teach character education classes to multiple grades at different schools.

  • Design and create teaching materials independently.

  • Coordinate lesson plan communications with US Tzu Chi Academies and other Tzu Chi chapters.

  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of character education program and any related concepts, laws, research and programs.

  • Help manage lesson plan file repository.

  • Support education conferences and camps in different regions within the U.S.

  • Assist Tzu Chi schools with understanding and implementing character education lesson plans.

  • Assist in training programs; responsibilities include coordinate training logistics, materials, and teaching training classes/workshops.

  • Design and develop training syllabus, course outline, course contents, training course material.

  • Provide data and appropriate reports to R&D Director in a timely manner.

  • Model and maintain high standards of professional and Tzu Chi code of conduct.

HR Assistant

Tzu Chi Foundation, U.S.A. has an immediate opening for HR Assistant. The HR Assistant must be bilingual in Chinese / English and must pass the Department of Justice background check.

Title: HR Assistant

Job Summary:

HR Assistant provides human resources support in multiple states inclusive of HR administration (job postings, recruiting, pre-employment screening, associate orientation, compliance, and other HR documentation) for all Tzu Chi locations and serves as the liaison for the payroll between HQ and branches.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Follow up on performance improvement plans and work on any compliance issues.

  • Investigate reports and resolve associate complaints and issues.

  • Serve as the liaison with other departments, and or corporate in the resolution of HR related issues.

  • Ensure all Tzu Chi branches compliance with standardized HR processes, procedures and approval requirements.

  • Monitor pre-employment testing and assessments for new hires.

  • Complete all new hire documentation in compliance with states and government regulations.

  • Conduct new hire orientation.

  • Monitor the status of associates on leave of absence, including workers compensation.

  • Ensure the proactive identification and resolution of associate relations issues.

  • Ensure that timely and accurate distribution of associate related communications.

  • Meet with department managers at all state branches regarding turnover and open positions.

  • Answer any HR policy questions.

  • Conduct annual benefits enrollment meetings.

  • Coordinate and monitors associate training and may conduct training in selected areas.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

Tzu Chi Foundation, Great Love Preschool & Kindergarten, Walnut has an immediate opening for Preschool Substitute Teacher/ Floater. The Substitute Teacher/ Floater is responsible for promoting Tzu Chi educational mission. Must have the ability to communicate orally and in writing with knowledge of Microsoft Office. A flexibility to work on weekends to fulfill position duties is a plus. In addition, reliable transportation with an acceptable driving record and a valid related requirement license is needed. Must pass the Department of Justice background check.

Title: Preschool Substitute Teacher/Floater

Job Description:

  • To follow Tzu Chi Bilingual/Character Education curriculum and design lesson plans and activities for preschool children.

  • To follow lesson plans and curriculum activities scheduled for that day.

  • To always maintain State Licensed ratio.

  • To take full responsibility in arriving to work at the scheduled time and also to be flexible in changing hours if the need arises.

  • To monitor and supervise children at all times indoors and outdoors.

  • To maintain head count sheets and daily attendance for safety reasons.

  • To establish proper and professional communication with other staff members and parents.

  • To maintain proper age appropriate interaction with children at all times.

  • To maintain a professional relationship with all volunteers.

  • To be in compliance with Tzu Chi dress code policy.

  • It is mandatory to attend all Tzu Chi meetings and trainings consistently.

  • To be responsible for the classroom decoration and setting for a better learning environment.

  • Assist in the development of short and long term plans for programs and monitor progress.

  • Identifying local interests and need for the community.

  • Assist to recruit instructors and evaluating courses.

  • Assist to coordinate, design and prepare for brochures and flyers for Community Education Programs.

  • Assist with the development of public relations and communications strategies to support program goals and increase community awareness.

  • Having strong communication skills and ability to work with volunteers and support event projects.

  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the Director.


 

Great Love Preschool & Kindergarten Cook

Great Love Preschool & Kindergarten, Walnut, CA has an immediate opening for one full time Cook . Must have the ability to communicate orally and in writing with knowledge of Microsoft Office. Bilingual in Chinese and English will be a plus. And also be able to work on weekends to fulfill position duties if needed. Job Description:

  • CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain.

  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail is a must.

  • Knowledgeable of state nutritional requirements for children.

  • Plans, posts and follows approved vegetarian menus that are nutritionally sound,and within center food budget.

  • Maintains effective, safe storage for food, cooking and serving supplies, equipment and utensils, and cleaning supplies in accordance with state and/or local regulation.

  • Keeps the refrigerator, appliances and entire kitchen clean and in good working order.

  • Lifts and carries bulk food appropriately when delivered and stores food properly; monitors quantities.

  • Follows all California and local regulatory health, safety and hygiene procedures.

  • Serves food in an age appropriate manner, and based on the number of children and staff eating that day.

  • Adheres to child food allergy requirements.

  • Follows emergency procedures.

  • Adaptable, flexible team-player, helps out in classrooms if necessary.

  • Checks food shipments into the school, signing invoices only after each order has been verified.

  • Supervises and assists with the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment, and the washing and sterilizing of all dishes, silverware, and utensils.

  • Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the maintenance, repair and operation of equipment and machines (OSHA).

Experience:

  • Two to five years relevant experience in a licensed child care facility kitchen, commercial kitchen, public school cafeteria, or equivalent.

  • May be required to have food service/food handlers’ permit or license according to state/local regulations.
